On Friday, September 27, India will face Bangladesh for the second and final Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. After the series, the focus will shift to the three-match T20I series. India will host Bangladesh for T20Is starting on Sunday, October 6.
Meanwhile, BCCI is yet to release the squad for the upcoming series. However, there are reports that several senior players will be rested, and opportunities will be served to out-of-favour players or those who are behind in the pecking order.
Bangladesh Tour Of India 2024: Sanju Samson Likely To Pip Kishan
A report from Cricbuzz mentioned that India's star keeper Rishabh Pant is likely to be rested for the T20I series, and Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are the two favourites to make the squad.
It is worth noting that BCCI dropped Kishan from the central contract earlier this year, and he has not played a solitary game across any format in 2024. Much to Kishan's disappointment, the Cricbuzz report added that the selectors are looking to prefer Sanju over Kishan.
The selectors are considering Sanju to open the innings, a role he has often played for the Men in Blue. Notably, Samson also has a fifty while opening the innings in T20Is, but he failed with the bat in the recently concluded Sri Lanka series.
Ishan Kishan Named in Irani Cup Squad
Another move from the BCCI that has hinted at selectors eyeing Samson for the Bangladesh series is that Ishan Kishan has been named in the squad for the upcoming Irani Cup.
Irani Cup is a tournament in which the defending Ranji Winners take on the Rest of India's squad. This year, Mumbai will take on Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Rest of India at the Ekana Stadium on October 1, of which Kishan is a part.
