Why Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh And Arshdeep Are Not In The Rest Of India Squad For Irani Cup 2024?
Rinku Singh, Samson and Arshdeep Singh are not part of Rest of India's Squad (ICC)
India's domestic season got underway recently with the Duleep Trophy and now, after the successful completition of that tournament, the focus has shifted to the Irani Cup tie. Rest of India will take on Mumbai in this year's Irani Trophy and BCCI, on Tuesday, September 24th announced the Rest of India's squad with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading a strong 15-member unit.
The Irani Trophy clash is from the 1st of October at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, and despite the presence of plenty of India hopefuls and other quality domestic performers, the absence of the star trio of Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh has raised some eyebrows. Samson despite playing only two games, was the leading run-scorer among wicketkeepers in Duleep Trophy and also scored a fantastic counter-attacking century.
Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson Impress In Duleep Trophy
Arshdeep Singh, on the other hand, picked nine wickets in the final Duleep Trophy game for India D against India B, and there were expectations that the duo would be selected in the Irani clash as well. Although Rinku Singh did not live up to his billing in the Duleep Trophy, he has a good domestic record, so he was also considered one of the contenders to bag a spot for the prestigious tie. However, now reports have revealed that all three of them would be selected in India's T20I squad for the Bangladesh series and as that series would start on October 6 and Irani Trophy clash is scheduled to end on October 5, the selectors have decided not to select the star trio.
However, as mentioned before, there is no dearth of quality in the Rest of India's Squad. The duo of Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal are also selected for the clash and will play the game if they are not featured in the XI for the second Test against Bangladesh. Also, if the reports of non-selection of Sanju, Rinku and Arshdeeep Singh because of T20I series is true, then it is also worth noting that Ishan is still not being considered for International return as he is a part of Duleep Trophy clash.
