Meanwhile, Reddy and Sundar forged a memorable partnership, recording India’s second-highest eighth-wicket stand in Australia. The duo added 127 runs, surpassing the 107-run stand by Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in 2008.
Also, the circumstances in which they piled up runs made the partnership even more special. Walking in at 221/7 after Ravindra Jadeja was trapped lbw by Nathan Lyon, Nitish and Sundar had a mountain to climb.
Trailing by 253 runs, they steadied the innings with a mix of grit and counter attacking shots. Nitish brought up his maiden Test century during the stand, while Sundar contributed a composed fifty before falling with the team score at 348/8.
That being said, BCCI released a special video dedicated to the duo where they shared their point of views on the partnership. “Keep Fighting” was the crucial phase that kept them going. Reddy also recalled the moment he got his century, mentioning his father who got extremely emotional.
Meanwhile, Reddy and Sundar’s partnership not only reduced the deficit to 126 runs but also injected hope into India’s first innings, keeping the contest alive at the iconic Boxing Day Test.
