Nitish Kumar Reddy became the saviour of the Men in Blue with his brilliant maiden Test ton. The 21-year-old stabilized a trembling India with Washington Sundar after Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja's scary departure at the beginning of Day 3 of the 4th Test against Australia.
However, Reddy's ton was not like walking on a bed of roses as his inning had its trembles when he closed down on the century. While the tension was palpable on-field, the nerve-wracking energy was radiated by Nitish Kumar Reddy's father Mutyala Reddy in the stands.
Father Prays Nervously As Reddy Ups The Ante With Daring Loft
In the last ball of Scott Boland's over, when Reddy was standing tall at 97, the young gun played a daring shot and lofted an outside off-length delivery towards the extra cover. The ball soared in the air and fell on no man's land which luckily led to Reddy's survival. However, Reddy's father was not too happy to see the ball sailing in the air as the desperation on his face was evident after the camera panned towards him.
As soon as the ball landed safely, Mutyala was seen joining his hands to pray to the Gods for the scary survival. However, the ball which was in the air for too long led to a brain-fade moment for Reddy as he intended to stay on strike for the next over but with Jasprit Bumrah running in from the other side, Reddy couldn't signal a 'no' and went for two runs. This led to Bumrah take on the strike for the next over leaving the fans as well as Reddy's father hanging on the edge to cherish the much-awaited century.
Reddy Secures Maiden Test Ton
The Sunrisers Hyderabad star finally secured his maiden Test century after a long wait, hitting a blistering boundary off Boland's delivery in the 115th over. He reached his ton off 171 balls, following Jasprit Bumrah's unfortunate dismissal and also after a tense over when Mohammed Siraj rarely survived on the pitch to give Reddy the strike.
With Reddy steering the ship for India, Rohit Sharma and Co. now look strong at the Stumps of Day 3. With Mohammed Siraj beside the SRH star, India has put up a strong total of 358-9 with a debt of 116 runs from Australia still to be cleared.
