In a significant development, Lucknow Super Giants have roped in promising West Indies speedster Shamar Joseph as Mark Wood's replacement for IPL 2024.

Joseph recently grabbed the limelight owing to his stellar performance in the Test series against Australia, which the Windies drew by 1-1. Joseph, who will thus play his first IPL season, has joined the Lucknow-based franchise for INR 3 Crores.

Despite being incredibly talented, Wood’s career has been marred by frequent injury setbacks. Hailed for his ability to bowl rapid thunderbolts, Wood had made his mark in the IPL 2023, scalping eleven wickets in four appearances at a fabulous strike rate of 8.73.

However, it’s unclear if Wood is injured or has pulled out of the IPL 2024 due to some other reason. Nevertheless, with Joseph’s signing, LSG has officially confirmed Wood’s non-participation in the lucrative tournament.

Meanwhile, talking about Joseph, the young seamer recently grabbed a million eyeballs through some spectacular bowling performances in the two-match Test series Down Under.

After claiming a clinical fifer on his debut innings, Joseph played a pivotal role in West Indies’ resurgence, as the visitors won a Test match against the Aussies after a long hiatus

The Super Giants fine-tuned their squad by acquiring some quality bowling options- Shivam Mavi, Arshad Khan and David Willey, alongside prominent India u19 all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni.

Needless to say, the addition of Joseph has further strengthened their bowling department, making them a team to beat heading to the tournament.
