Riding on an exceptional four-wicket haul from Xavier Bartlett and a blistering cameo from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Australia crushed West Indies by eight wickets in the final ODI of the three-match series in Canberra.
Bowling first, Australia restricted the visitors to a paltry 86-run total, as Bartlett scalped a sensational four-fer. In response, the hosts chased down the total successfully, with Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis playing quick-fire knocks.
Besides Australia's dominance, one thing that grabbed the limelight was the mini on-field battle between Fraser-McGurk and ace West Indies speedster Alzarri Joseph.
During the third over of the Australian innings, Fraser-McGurk went after Joseph, hitting him for two consecutive boundaries. The bowler seemed fired up following the onslaught, as he beat the Aussie youngster by pace on two successive occasions. After finishing the over with a dot ball, Joseph was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Fraser-McGurk.
Although Fraser-McGurk slammed 41 runs off just 18 balls, Joseph emerged as the ultimate winner of this battle, dismissing him in the fifth over. Aaron Hardie became the victim of Oshane Thomas; however, Inglis and Steve Smith remained unbeaten, helping Australia get past the finish line.
Up next, both teams will engage in a three-match T20I series starting this Friday.
