Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, April 26.
PBKS, KKR Split Points After Kolkata Rains
KKR’s home match against Punjab Kings was abandoned owing to ceaseless rains at the Eden Gardens. The Punjab Kings batted first and mounted 201-4 from 20 overs, with both opening batters cracking sparkling half-centuries. While Priyansh Arya clubbed 69 runs off 35 balls, Prabhsimran Singh made 83 from 49 deliveries. For the KKR, new ball paceman Vaibhav Arora picked up figures of 2-34 from his four overs. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine also chipped in with a wicket each.
In response, KKR’s run-chase lasted just an over before rains interrupted play in Kolkata.
RCB Coach Defends Virat Kohli
RCB’s spin bowling coach Malolan Rangaranjan has backed legendary opening batter Virat Kohli ahead of their team’s upcoming IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals on April 27. Kohli has been criticized over his ability of tackling spin lately. However, Rangaranjan said that Kohli does not need to go and practice against spinners, considering the seasoned campaigner has been playing top-flight cricket for over two decades. Malolan also praised the vintage RCB opener for his unstoppable hunger of getting better in the game.
Anil Kumble Calls Dewald Brevis CSK’s Next Star
Former Indian captain Anil Kumble believes that explosive South African batter has the potential of becoming CSK’s next big star in the IPL. Kumble hailed Brevis for his ability of tackling spin, after the latter celebrated his CSK debut with a blistering 42 against SRH at the Chepauk Stadium. It is worth noting that Brevis was roped in by the CSK franchise midway into the IPL 2025 season as a replacement of injured fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh.
