SRH cruised towards a comprehensive five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 43 of the IPL 2025 season. Unbeaten middle-order batters Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy composed an unbeaten 49-run partnership for the SRH from just 29 balls as the ‘Orange Army’ recorded its third win of IPL 2025 to jump to eighth spot on the points table.

However, during a tense phase of the SRH innings, unbeaten Kamindu missed out on an opportunity to dispatch CSK spinner Noor Ahmad off a free-hit. Mendis’ free-hit mishap even prompted SRH’s CEO Kavya Maran to fume in disbelief in the stands at the iconic Chepauk Stadium.

IPL founder, former league commissioner and the tournament’s first-ever chairman Lalit Modi took note of Kavya Maran’s disappointment after Kamindu Mendis swung and missed a golden free-hit chance off Noor Ahmad.

Taking to X, Lalit Modi re-tweeted a snippet of Kavya Maran’s reaction and responded with three crying emojis.

As it happened, CSK batted first and were bundled out for just 154 in 19.5 overs. Dewald Brevis top-scored in the innings for the hosts with a cracking 25-ball 42. For the SRH, fast bowler Harshal Patel picked up the important wickets of Sam Curran, Brevis and MS Dhoni to claim figures of 4-28. Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat also chipped in with two wickets each for the ‘Orange Army’.

Chasing 155, SRH slipped to 106-5 in 14 overs before an unbeaten partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy navigated the visitors past the finishing line with more than an over to spare.
