In the cricket world, Virat Kohli doesn’t need any introduction, as the ongoing IPL season is witnessing the beast mode of the King. Despite his greatness, Kohli continues to face harsh criticism, particularly for his ability against spin bowling.

As the former Indian captain is dominating the IPL 2025 with his fiery form, RCB’s spin bowling coach Malolan Rangaranjan came up with a sharp answer, backing Kohli’s improved strike rate.

Malolan Defends Kohli’s Spin-Hitting Ability

Even being one of the biggest names in international cricket, criticism has always chased Virat Kohli. For a long time, the batter faced criticism over his ability to tackle spin, with many pointed fingers at his strike rate against spinners during the middle overs in the previous IPL season. But this year, he has tackled the setback in his own way.

Before facing the Delhi Capitals in the next match, RCB’s spin bowling coach Malolan Rangaranjan defended Kohli, saying the Indian superstar doesn’t need to put in extra effort against spin as he has been doing it for over two decades.

“It wasn’t only Virat last season who was not batting at the desired strike rate. It was the whole team. So I think the whole team got together. And that’s precisely what happened. That’s part one,” he said.

“Part two is about Virat Kohli as the individual. He does not need to go and practice extra against left-arm spin and leg spin. He’s batted for 20-25 years. He’s a genius. He just has to decide what he wants to do and how he wants to take down a particular bowler,” he added.

Hailing Kohli’s Brilliance

Despite all the chatter, Virat Kohli silenced his critics by finishing as the highest run-scorer of IPL 2024. After retiring from the T20 format last year, Kohli returned to the ongoing edition with a bang, proving that the spark is still there in him. In 9 matches, he has already scored 392 runs with five half-centuries. Praising the legend, RCB’s spin coach Malolan Rangarajan lauded Kohli’s unstoppable hunger to keep getting better.

“And it’s very evident that someone like Virat, even after having played for so long, he’s constantly looking at what more he can do. Which is, to me, unbelievable,” he said.

“The attitude with which he comes into every training session, every match. So, Virat, I don’t think he did anything specifically physically (on his spin play),” he added.

Being in the third position, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all set to face the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. As the home boy is set to take on the field, the home crowd is expecting a killer knock from him.
