Veteran English cricketer Jos Buttler is doubtful for the upcoming T20I series against Australia due to an injury. The talismanic cricketer withdrew from Lancashire's T20 Blast quarterfinal against Sussex as he is yet to recover from a calf injury.

Notably, Buttler damaged his calf in July while preparing for The Hundred 2024. The injury setback ruled him out of the lucrative white-ball tournament, adversely affecting Manchester Originals' campaign.

As a result of the unfortunate injury, the keeper-batter hasn't played a single competitive match since England's disastrous T20 World Cup semifinal defeat against India in the Caribbean.

Now, as he misses the all-important knockout fixture for Lancashire, large doubts loom over his participation in the much-awaited Australia series.

"We've had some bad news on his recovery. He had an injury he was recovering from, and he's sort of tweaked it again. He's not only just out of our T20s, but I think he's even struggling to make the international ones. He was very keen to play for us," Lancashire coach Dale Benkenstein was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Who will lead England in Australia T20Is if Buttler misses out?

England haven't announced a designated vice-captain in their squad for the three-match T20I series against Australia. However, if Buttler gets ruled out, either Sam Curran or Phil Salt could lead the Three Lions in the series.
