Pakistan's Test cricket team has been struggling recently, with disappointing performances across their last four matches. After a series of losses to Australia, the team under Shan Masood is now facing a similar fate against Bangladesh.

The first Test against Bangladesh was a historic defeat for Pakistan, marking Bangladesh’s first-ever Test victory against them in 14 attempts. This loss added pressure on Pakistan as they entered the second Test with a need to bounce back.

Bangladesh's Stellar Show At Rawalpindi

In the second Test in Rawalpindi, Pakistan seemed poised for a comeback after reducing Bangladesh to a precarious 26/6 in the first innings. However, the visitors staged a remarkable recovery, led by wicket-keeper batter Litton Das and star batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The duo added 165 runs for the seventh wicket, bringing Bangladesh to within 12 runs of Pakistan's first innings total of 274.

Litton’s century (138 off 228) and Mehidy’s solid 78 off 124 were instrumental in Bangladesh’s resurgence, ending their innings at 262.

Pakistan's Struggles And Criticism From Ahmed Shehzad

The unexpected turn of events drew criticism from Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad. He expressed his disappointment with Pakistan's inability to maintain pressure on Bangladesh after their early success. Reacting to the collapse in the second innings Shehzad stated,

“Pakistan have made another unwanted record against Bangladesh. It seems like Bangladesh cricket team has come only to make records."

Shehzad also questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) claims about the lack of quality players in domestic cricket, citing the performances of Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza as evidence of the available talent.

"At one time it looked they (Pakistan) have a firm grip on the proceedings thanks to our youngsters. It’s been claimed we don’t have the instrument for a surgery in domestic cricket. These youngsters came from our domestic cricket, not from Mohenjo-Daro. They’ve been waiting for their chances and today they got it in the absence of any senior bowler in the team,” Shehzad said.

Shezad criticised the Pakistan team for its inconsistent performance, marked by a lack of collective effort and a failure to capitalise on opponents' weaknesses.

“And what followed is what Pakistan is infamous for. There’s an absence of collective effort, we see it in patches. They end up exploiting the phases when the opponent isn’t at their best. But in challenging situations they have to be proactive, make changes and be ruthless. In our field, when the opponent is under pressure, you shouldn’t give them any opening to bounce back,” he further added.
