In a significant development, India's prominent batter, Suryakumar Yadav, has been ruled out of the first-round Duleep Trophy matches due to an injury. The batter recently injured his hand while representing Mumbai against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu tournament. The injury prevented him from batting on the last day of the red-ball affair in Coimbatore.

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play all around the park, Suryakumar Yadav was set to play for India C, who will face India D, led by Shreyas Iyer, in their first Duleep Trophy encounter. So his unfortunate injury is a massive setback for India C, as they will miss a skilled batter in the all-important game.

The Duleep Trophy holds significant importance for the Indian cricketers participating in it, as it will give them a golden opportunity to audition for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh at home. Thus, the injury has jolted Surya's Test ambitions, delaying his return to the national red-ball squad.

Suryakumar Yadav eager to make a Test comeback

As reported earlier, Suryakumar is keen to make a comeback into India's Test side following a torrid start to his career. After establishing himself as India's go-to batter in T20Is, Suryakumar was tested in the longer formats. However, his inconsistency prompted India to drop him from their Test and ODI plans.

Regarded as India's Mr 360, Suryakumar has an impressive record in First-Class cricket, amassing 5628 runs at an average of 43.62. The Indian T20I skipper played his last domestic red-ball game against South Zone in July last year.
