Indian star bowler Jasprit Bumrah made a surprise appearance at the Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad on Monday while Tamil Nadu was playing Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match. The 32-year-old pacer bowled quietly at the nets, avoiding the usual fanfare, and kept his session short but productive under the eyes of former Gujarat coach Hitesh Majmudar.

As reported by The Hindu, Bumrah started with a few deliveries from a short run-up and gradually increased his approach. By the end of the session, he was bowling with a full run-up, though not at his usual pace.

Jasprit Bumrah focused on accuracy and bounce, giving local players a rare chance to face a top international bowler beside the live actions between two of the biggest Indian domestic cricket giants in round three of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Low-key practice session for Jasprit Bumrah amid international break

Jasprit Bumrah has recently been part of India’s T20I series against South Africa and is currently taking a break from competitive cricket. Like teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Bumrah is not participating in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy matches.

His visit to the Gujarat College ground was therefore low-key, allowing him to practice without the distractions of crowds or media attention. Jasprit Bumrah’s brief session also gave Gujarat Ranji players, including Sunpreet Bagga, an opportunity to face some quality pace bowling.

During his 30-minute bowling session against Bagga, Jasprit Bumrah focused on making the ball rise off the pitch and keeping the batter alert, urging him to stay on his toes and play for bounce. He bowled at speeds of 130-135 kmph, delivering two overs to Bagga.

With New Zealand coming to India in less than two weeks, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to feature in the ODIs against them. The team management appears to be managing his workload carefully ahead of upcoming international assignments, including the T20 World Cup 2026, for which he has already been selected in India’s squad.
