Virat Kohli made a memorable return to domestic cricket for Delhi by featuring in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, for the first time since 2010. The former India captain marked his comeback in emphatic fashion, scoring a superb century and a half-century in his two appearances.
Initially, it was expected that Kohli would play only two matches in this tournament. However, fresh reports now suggest there is a strong possibility of him returning for another Vijay Hazare trophy fixture for Delhi after the New Year.
When will Virat Kohli play his next match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy?
Kohli thoroughly enjoyed his return in Delhi colors, scoring a magnificent century against Andhra and following it up with a fluent 77 against Gujarat, seemingly ending his Vijay Hazare campaign for the season, until a fresh twist now emerges.
In a significant development reported by Dainik Jagran, after the New Year break, Virat Kohli could turn out for Delhi in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Railways, scheduled to be played in Alur on January 6.
Following that appearance, he is set to link up with the Indian team for the upcoming New Zealand series, starting from January 11th. However, his availability for the Railways’ match will depend on the Indian team’s camp schedule.
Notably, Kohli’s kit and personal gear are still with the Delhi team, underlining the strong possibility of his return for a third appearance. Having said that, Kohli will still miss three Group D matches in the middle phase, which Delhi will have to navigate without their star player.
Virat Kohli’s presence was a massive boost not only for the tournament but for Delhi as well. He is currently Delhi’s highest run-scorer in the tournament with 208 runs from two matches, and his contributions played a decisive role in Delhi winning both games early in the campaign.
