In a major development, it has been understood that Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are likely to be excluded from India's ODI squad for the New Zealand series. The BCCI selection committee is all set to announce the Indian squad for the New Zealand ODIs on either January 3 or 4 after an online meeting between the members of the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. If reports are to be believed, the veteran duo of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to get an entry into India's squad for the New Zealand ODIs.

Why Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah could be excluded from IND ODI squad vs NZ

Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been two pioneers of Indian cricket over the years. After making their debuts in 2016 during India's Australia tour, Pandya and Bumrah established themselves as vital members of the Indian team. While Bumrah is the backbone of the Indian bowling department across formats, Pandya is India's first-choice allrounder in white-ball cricket.

However, a report from Cricbuzz has revealed that Bumrah and Pandya won't likely make it into India's squad for New Zealand ODIs, which is set to be announced in the first week of January.

The report states that the Indian think tank wants to manage the workloads of Bumrah and Pandya ahead of the T20 World Cup. Given how crucial these two players are for India in the shortest format, the T20 World Cup hosts don't want them to feature in the New Zealand ODIs, which have little significance.

Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have had multiple injury setbacks throughout their careers. So, the Indian team management doesn't want to risk their fitness a month before the T20 World Cup. So, Pandya and Bumrah won't likely be picked for the ODI series and play the subsequent five-match T20I series to prepare for the World Cup.

While Bumrah will likely make his cricketing comeback through the T20I series against New Zealand, Pandya is slated to play Baroda's Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on January 3, 6, and 8, in compliance with the BCCI diktat of mandatory participation in domestic games.

Will Shreyas Iyer get into India ODI squad for New Zealand series?

The Cricbuzz report stated that Shreyas Iyer is still doubtful for the New Zealand ODIs amid his recovery from a spleen injury that he sustained during India's tour of Australia earlier this year. However, the stylish middle-order batter might turn up for Mumbai in their Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Maharashtra to assess his fitness ahead of the highly anticipated home series against New Zealand.
