In a dramatic turn of events on Monday, Hobart Hurricanes all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary was at the centre of one of the most astonishing moments of the BBL 2025-26 season, suffering a horrific-looking shoulder injury before stunning everyone by later walking out to bat.

The incident occurred on the very first ball of the ninth over, bowled by Rishad Hossain to Oliver Peake. Peake clubbed the delivery for a powerful six, sending Chaudhary sprinting to his left from long-on.

Attempting an overhead catch with both hands, Chaudhary could only push the ball over the ropes. What followed immediately raised alarm bells in the Hobart Hurricanes' camp.

Landing awkwardly near the boundary, Chaudary fell heavily and remained on the ground holding his shoulder in visible pain. The Hurricanes fielders quickly surrounded him as physios rushed out.

With Tim David already unavailable due to an injury, the sight was worrying for Hobart, and early indications suggested a possible shoulder dislocation. Chaudhary eventually walked off the field, as the on-field scenes didn't look good at all.

Nikhil Chaudhary’s return stuns everyone amid injury fears

Remarkably, the story did not end there. Despite leaving the field injured, Nikhil Chaudhary later emerged to bat at No. 5 when the Hurricanes were 59 for 3. Taking everyone by surprise, Nikhil played a brief but impactful knock, scoring 19 off just 12 balls, including a towering 98-metre six that soared deep into the crowd.

His appearance alone stunned fans and commentators, turning concern into disbelief. However, Hobart’s chase soon faced some troubles again as wickets tumbled, leaving them struggling at 94 for 5. It was then that Matthew Wade and Rehan Ahmed stepped up with a composed partnership, steadying the innings.

The Hurricanes eventually won the game, but it was Nikhil Chaudhary’s bizarre shoulder injury, followed by a courageous return to the crease, that stole the spotlight in the evening action of BBL 2025-26 in Hobart and left everyone wondering just how serious that injury really was.
