Following allegations made by former Bangladesh women’s cricketer Jahanara Alam against a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official for inappropriate behaviour, the BCB has announced that it will form a committee to investigate the matter.
Jahanara Alam, who currently resides in Australia, revealed in an interview with journalist Riasad Azim that a former selector behaved inappropriately toward her when he served as the women’s team selector and manager. She further claimed that some BCB officials also acted inappropriately and asked her lewd questions.
These allegations surfaced shortly after Jahanara alleged that Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana physically abuses her teammates, which was later disregarded by the BCB, calling those claims 'baseless'.
BCB to find truth within 15 working days
In a statement released on November 6, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that it would take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has noted with concern the allegations reported in the media made by a former member of the Bangladesh national women's cricket team regarding alleged misconduct by certain individuals associated with the team," the BCB statement read.
The BCB assured in the statement that the investigations will be completed within 15 working days, as it is committed towards a safe professional environment.
"As the matter is of a sensitive nature, the BCB has decided to form a committee to investigate the allegations thoroughly. The committee will submit its findings and recommendations within 15 working days. The BCB is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all its players and personnel. The Board takes such matters with utmost seriousness and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation," the statement read.
Jahanara Alam played 52 Women’s ODIs, taking 48 wickets, and claimed 60 wickets from 83 T20I matches. Her last appearance came against Ireland Women in December 2024. The 32-year-old is now considerably out of the cricketing fray and is looking to pursue a coaching career.
