In a recent update, Bangladesh’s former captain Tamim Iqbal has urged an independent investigation into the serious sexual harassment allegations made by former women's team captain Jahanara Alam against a former selector and officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

It is important to note that Jahanara recently revealed in an interview with journalist Riasad Azim that she had faced an offensive request and inappropriate behaviour from a former pacer. He also served as the women’s team manager and selector during the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup.

Following this, the BCB announced that it has formed a committee to investigate the allegations. The board stated that the inquiry team has been asked to submit its findings within 15 working days, after which suitable action will be taken based on the report.

Tamim seeks neutral investigation for Jahanara Alam

However, Tamim Iqbal believes the probe should be conducted independently, without any BCB involvement, to ensure transparency and fairness. In a Facebook post on Friday, Tamim wrote -

"Such allegations must never be brushed aside. No woman in cricket—or any sport—should face this kind of behaviour. A neutral committee must ensure fairness."

He also acknowledged the fact that BCB has already formed a panel, but Tamim argued that the investigation should be conducted under the National Sports Council or government supervision.

“There should not be any BCB representative on the committee to avoid even the slightest possibility of bias. This must be treated with utmost urgency and seriousness, and those found guilty must face exemplary punishment,” he added.

“I am hearing about more such incidents from various sources. I urge every woman cricketer who has faced harassment, in any form or at any level, to come forward bravely. You will find me and many others standing beside you,” he said.

Tamim also criticised the BCB for quickly dismissing Jahanara Alam’s concerns about the team environment and stressing that such complaints should be taken seriously.
