Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally snapped their five-match losing streak against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by securing a commanding 28-run victory in Match 53 of the IPL 2024 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday.

Invited to bat first, CSK started strongly, scoring 60/1 in the powerplay. Despite a mid-innings slump due to the PBKS spinners, which left them at 122/6 after 16 overs, a fiery 43 off 26 balls from Ravindra Jadeja enabled CSK to set a competitive total of 167/9.

In their chase, PBKS stumbled early, losing two quick wickets. Although Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh steadied the ship with a 53-run partnership, the dismissal of Shashank in the 8th over triggered a dramatic collapse, and PBKS were eventually restricted to 139/9.

Here's the timeline of how PBKS vs CSK panned out in Dharamsala-

Early Setback for CSK as Rahane Falls to Arshdeep

CSK faced a challenging start in their innings after being put into bat first, as Ajinkya Rahane continued his poor form, falling early to Arshdeep Singh for just 9 runs off 7 balls. The early dismissal didn't set the tone CSK hoped for in this crucial encounter.

Gaikwad and Mitchell Anchor the Recovery

Despite the initial hiccup, CSK found stability through Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell, who knitted a crucial 57-run partnership. Their efforts propelled CSK to a healthier score of 60/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Gaikwad, leading from the front, played a brisk innings of 32 off 21 balls before being caught behind off the bowling of Rahul Chahar.

Shortly after, Shivam Dube departed for a golden duck to the same bowler, adding pressure back on CSK.

Jadeja Fights as CSK Reach Competitive Total

Following the dismissals of the middle order, Ravindra Jadeja took charge, scoring a vital 43 off 26 balls and ensuring CSK kept the scoreboard ticking.

Daryl Mitchell contributed a useful 30 off 19 balls before falling to Harshal Patel. Lower down the order, Moeen Ali struggled to accelerate, scoring 17 off 20 deliveries, while Shardul Thakur, promoted in the batting order, managed a quick 17 off 11 balls.

Veteran MS Dhoni was unable to make an impact, dismissed for a golden duck as CSK concluded their innings at 167/9.

Deshpande Dismantles Top Order, Removes Bairstow and Rossouw

Punjab Kings faced a big challenge as they began their chase of 168 runs, but their hopes were quickly dampened by CSK's Tushar Deshpande, who delivered early dismissals.

Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw both fell victim to Deshpande's lethal pace, putting Punjab on the back foot from the outset.

Prabhsimran and Shashank's Efforts in Vain as PBKS Fall Like a Pack of Cards

Despite the shaky start, Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh sparked a brief resurgence for Punjab Kings with a promising 53-run partnership.

Prabhsimran, the Impact Player, contributed a steady 30 off 23 balls, while Shashank added 27 off 20. However, following Shashank's dismissal, the PBKS batting lineup crumbled, failing to build on the momentum as Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran, and Ashutosh Sharma departed cheaply.

Harpreet Brar (17* off 13), Harshal Patel (12 off 13), and Rahul Chahar (16 off 10) made small contributions, and despite Kagiso Rabada remaining not out on 11, Punjab Kings could only muster 139/9 by the end of their 20 overs, falling short of their target.
