The Hundred is entering a new era of big money, private investment, and aggressive recruitment. And England star Harry Brook is right at the centre of it.

Brook is set to earn a massive £470,000 next season after agreeing to stay with his team, Northern Superchargers, now rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds. His deal could make him the highest-paid player in the tournament.

The Hundred is set to boom as big-money retentions begin

Harry Brook is currently on a short break in Noosa during England’s mid-Ashes gap, but his signing has already made headlines back home.

Despite serving a two-year IPL ban for pulling out of a Delhi Capitals contract, Brook will still secure a huge income thanks to the Hundred’s newly boosted finances and his England central deal.

This sudden financial jump comes from major changes behind the scenes. For the first five seasons, the ECB controlled all eight teams.

Now, private investors and counties have taken over operational control, turning teams into joint ventures.

Sunrisers Leeds are a unique case, as their investors bought Yorkshire’s entire stake earlier this year, giving them full control.

The recruitment system has also changed. Instead of drafts, the Hundred will now have auctions. Teams can directly sign only up to four players before the auction, with limits on overseas and centrally contracted players.

The retention window opened on November 27, and franchises moved quickly.

Brook’s signing reflects how dramatically salaries have risen. Just two years ago, the highest men’s salary band was £125,000. It rose to £200,000 in 2025, yet Brook is earning more than double that through the new investor-backed structure.

Phil Salt to sign with Welsh Fire

Another big-money English signing is Phil Salt, who is set to join Welsh Fire for around £450,000. Fire won a three-team battle, beating London Spirit and Manchester Super Giants.

Salt has been a key player for Manchester Originals, but his North Wales roots made Fire determined to bring him home.

Sunrisers Leeds have also signed Brydon Carse and Mitchell Marsh, and may add an overseas fast bowler.

Across the league, the transfer window is buzzing. Trent Rockets want Joe Root and Ben Duckett, London Spirit have secured Liam Livingstone and Jamie Overton, and Southern Brave have locked in Jofra Archer under new ownership.

It’s important to remember that all teams must confirm their retentions by January 16, before the inaugural auctions take place in March.
