Japan roll out full Under-19 World Cup 2026 squad with upset dreams in sight

Cricket Japan has unveiled Japan’s entire squad for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia next month. Young fast bowler Kazuma Kato-Stafford has been appointed as Japan Under-19 captain for the tournament.

Interestingly, Kazuma already holds international cricket experience for Japan, having played 12 T20Is for them ever since making his debut in Bangkok back in February 2024 last year.

Japan name complete Under-19 World Cup squad

Japan national fast bowler Kazuma Kato-Stafford will be leading the Japan Under-19 team in the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Japan Cricket also recalled former captain Nikhil Pol and all-rounder Timothy Moore in the 15-player squad for the tournament.

Nihar Parmar also made a cut into the national Under-19 squad after he bludgeoned 156 off just 132 balls against Maldives. Here is a look at the entire Japan Under-19 squad for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup.

Kazuma Kato-Stafford (c), Charles Hara-Hinze, Gabriel Hara-Hinze, Montgomery Hara-Hinze, Kaisei Kobayashi-Doggett, Timothy Moore, Skyler Nakayama-Cook, Ryuki Ozeki, Nihar Parmar, Nikhil Pol, Chihaya Sekine, Hugo Tani-Kelly, Sandev Aaryan Waduge, Kai Wall and Taylor Waugh

The Japan Under-19 cricket team is placed in Group C of the 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup alongside Ireland, Sri Lanka and defending champions Australia Under-19 teams.

Japan will commence their World Cup campaign with a match against Sri Lanka on January 17. They will go up against Australia and Ireland on January 20 and January 22 respectively to cap their league stage run. Each of Japan’s three Group C fixtures will be hosted by the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.

The upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup marks Japan’s second appearance in the tournament after making their debut for the 2020 edition in South Africa. They qualified for the competition by winning the EAP Division, however, Japan failed to win a single game and finished fourth on the Group A points table.
