Surrey CCC confirms renaming of Oval Invincibles

On the evening of December 3, Surrey took to their socials and announced the strategic partnership with Reliance, as MI will take over 49% of the franchise ownership from the England and Wales Cricket Board, while Surrey will keep 51% of it.

“We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with the Reliance team over our partnership in the Hundred franchise team. Reliance bring a significant depth of cricket and business expertise and have had great success with their franchise teams in India and around the world – there’s no doubt that they are here to win. They are passionate cricket people and together we will continue the success of our two teams," said Surrey Chair Oli Slipper.

He further revealed Surrey's intentions of building a global fanbase for the franchise and felt a partnership with MI, who have teams in various leagues is an important step to build the brand value.

Akash and Nita Ambani, who are heavily involved in MI's affairs also expressed their pleasure in welcoming another team to their "One Family"  in the same press release from the county.

Several other teams are also learnt to be up for an ownership change, with multiple IPL franchises involved in the deals, which could lead to more team names being changed ahead of the 2026 season.
