Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are ranked no. 1 and no. 2 ODI batters in the latest ICC rankings. This development has the fans on their feet as they hail the senior duo’s fightback.

After the veteran players retired from Tests and T20Is, critics questioned whether they were fit enough to play just one format (ODI), especially being in their late 30s.

Rohit, Kohli shut down critics with ODI turnaround

However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli turned the tables. The former slammed 202 runs in the ODI series against Australia, while the latter hammered a hundred in the third ODI.

Then in the ODI series against South Africa, Kohli scored two hundreds and a fifty, while Rohit also hit 146 runs in 3 games. 

Courtesy of the consistent form, Rohit Sharma has been ranked the no. 1 ODI batter in ICC rankings, while Virat Kohli has jumped two places to rank no. 2.

After a long pause, the seniors are back dominating the ODI format and, in a way, shut down critics who questioned their ability and commitment to play the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Social media erupted in seconds and was filled with thousands of messages hailing the Ro-Ko duo.

The timing of these revised rankings also matters a lot. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier claimed that Rohit and Virat are 'non-committal' for the next edition of the World Cup. Hence, their places cannot be guaranteed.

But with Kohli working hard on his game and Sharma transforming his physical health, their commitment seems to be the last thing missing.

That being said, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be next seen in the ODI series against New Zealand scheduled on January 11.
