In a significant development, there are reports that the BCCI has informed to the ECB about their decision to ban star player Harry Brook from participating in IPL for two years. Notably, according to Devandra Pandey's report for Express Sports, Brook has been banned from participating in IPL auctions till IPL 2028 auctions.
Harry Brook Banned By The BCCI From IPL
“An official communication has been sent to ECB and Brook about BCCI banning him for two years as per its policy which was informed to each player before they registered their name for the IPL auction last year. It’s a policy set by the board and each player has to oblige to it,” a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.
Harry Brook, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for a whopping 6.25 crores during the IPL 2025 mega-auction, pulled out of the cash-studded league at the last moment, citing personal reasons. Brook took to social media platforms to announce his withdrawal from IPL and also apologised to DC fans and the club owners.
“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters," Brook had said in a statement.
Earlier, there were speculations about whether he would serve the ban or not, but now it is clear that the BCCI is firm on their stance to impose a 2-year ban on a player who withdraws from IPL after registering in the league auction.
Harry Brook Eyeing England Captaincy
It is the 2nd straight year that Brook has withdrawn from the league. He did the same in IPL 2024 when he was bought by the Capitals. However, this time it seems like he is eying the English captaincy, which is why he made that decision to not play IPL.
Notably, Jos Buttler stepped down as England captain recently after a string of poor results and the ECB is eyeing Brook to be his successor.
