CSK and SRH registered comprehensive victories over Gujarat Titans and KKR respectively. Former Indian cricketer and CSK great Suresh Raina is set to re-join the MS Dhoni-starrer franchise next year. In other news, South African player Heinrich Klaasen shattered a huge batting record with his turbulent ton against KKR bowlers.
Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Sunday, May 25.
Dewald Brevis Ensures CSK Sign Off In Style
CSK blanked Gujarat Titans by 83 runs in match 67 of the IPL 2025 season in Ahmedabad. Opening batter Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis bludgeoned dazzling half-centuries for CSK as the ‘Yellow Brigade’ carted 230-5 from 20 overs. For the Titans, Prasidh Krishna unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings with tight figures of 2-22.
In response, CSK bowlers Anshul Kamboj (3-13) and Noor Ahmad (3-21) folded up Titans for just 147 in 18.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja also claimed the prized scalps of Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan during the middle stages of the run-chase.
Noor Ahmad, Prasidh Krishna Swap Purple Caps
During the course of match 67 of the IPL 2025 season between Gujarat Titans and CSK, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna briefly held the coveted ‘Purple Cap’ by picking up figures of 2-22. However, CSK spinner Noor Ahmad regained the honour later in the evening with his match-winning three-wicket haul. Ahmad’s figures of 3-21 extended his IPL 2025 tally to 24 wickets from 14 innings at an impressive bowling average of 17 and at a strike rate of 12.50.
Suresh Raina To Join CSK As Batting Coach For IPL 2026
CSK great and former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is set to re-join the MS Dhoni-starrer franchise, albeit in a different role in next year’s IPL 2026 season. With CSK finishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, the franchise has appointed Raina as team’s new batting coach. Raina, who is also a part of the IPL 2025 commentary team, confirmed the same during CSK’s final league match of the season against Gujarat Titans.
SRH Devour KKR In Dead-Rubber
SRH, riding high on Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten century and a 40-ball 76 from blistering opener Travis Head, smashed 278-3 from 20 overs against defending champions KKR in match 68 of the IPL 2025 season. Remarkably, SRH’s batting effort marked the third highest total in the history of the tournament.
In response, fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat and spinner Harsh Dubey picked up three wickets each to headline SRH’s comprehensive win. Eshan Malinga also chipped in with three wickets as KKR folded up for just 168 in 18.4 overs, falling 110 runs short of their target in a virtual dead-rubber.
Heinrich Klaasen Tonks 37-Ball Record IPL Ton
SRH resolute Heinrich Klaasen clobbered a 37-ball century against KKR at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The cricketer became only the fifth South African player in history to hit an IPL ton after the likes of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, David Miller and Quinton de Kock. Moreover, Klaasen’s turbulent knock also marked the third joint-fastest hundred in IPL history after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 35-ball century from earlier this season.
