Renowned for their explosive history in white-ball cricket, the West Indies team boasts of a proud lineage of power-hitters and audacious stroke-makers. Their ODI journey is punctuated with towering team totals, reflecting a legacy built on flair, fearlessness, and formidable batting depth.
Celebrating the rich history of the West Indies cricket team in 50-overs internationals, here is a look at four of the highest team totals recorded by them in the format.
4. West Indies 374-6 vs Netherlands, Harare, 2023
West Indies amassed 374-6 from 50 overs in match 18 of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 back in June 2023 against Netherlands at the Takashinga Sports Club. Batting first, opening batters Brandon King (76 off 81) and Johnson Charles (54 off 55) both slapped sparkling half-centuries and shared a 101-run stand at the top.
Captain Shai Hope cracked 47 runs off 38 balls, while blistering left-hander Nicholas Pooran smeared 104 unbeaten runs from just 65 deliveries to top-score in the innings. Keemo Paul chipped in with a swift 25-ball 46* to turbo-charge the West Indies innings at the death.
Unfortunately for the West Indies, bowlers failed to complement batter’s efforts as the match ended in a thrilling tie before Netherlands seized tense moments in the resulting Super Over.
3. West Indies 381-3 vs Ireland, Dublin, 2019
In the first match of the Ireland ODI tri-series in Dublin back in May 2019, West Indies rained down 381 runs for the loss of just three wickets from 50 overs. Both opening batters, John Campbell and Shai Hope, unleashed their career-best ODI scores of 179 (137) and 170 (152) runs respectively. The two cricketers started off the match with a record 365-run opening partnership from 47.2 overs, before three quick wickets for Barry McCarthy and Mark Adair restricted the West Indies to 381.
The Men from the Caribbean ended up blanking the Irishmen by 196 runs, with Campbell bagging the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
2. West Indies 385-7 vs Ireland, Dublin, 2025
West Indies batters accrued a staggering 385-7 from 50 overs in the series-deciding third ODI match against Ireland at Dublin’s Castle Avenue in May 2025. Keacy Carty at number three blasted 170 runs from just 142 balls with 15 fours and eight huge sixes. Captain Shai Hope compiled 75 runs at run-a-ball, while Justin Greaves slapped a 23-ball half-century at the death.
Carty shared the biggest partnership of the innings, doing so by crafting 137 runs for the third wicket with captain and wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope. The centurion also shared 97 runs from just six overs with half-centurion Greaves to set up a huge total for the West Indies team.
1. West Indies 389 all out vs England, St George's, 2019
In a remarkable twist of fate, the highest ODI team total for the West Indies occurred in a losing cause. Moreover, the West Indies team even failed to bat the entirety of their 50 overs in the game, as they were folded up 389 with two overs to spare. Chasing 419 against England in the fourth ODI of the five-match home series back in February 2019 at St. George’s, Chris Gayle exploded with 162 runs from just 97 balls with 11 fours and 14 huge sixes.
Darren Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite also recorded quick half-centuries, but lack of assistance from others in the run-chase ensured West Indies fell 29 runs short of their target.
