The Kolkata Knight Riders endured a nightmare outing in the 68th match of IPL 2025, as they were handed their biggest-ever defeat in IPL history by the explosive Sunrisers Hyderabad side. The KKR team suffered a loss by 110 runs while chasing a mammoth target of 279 runs.
Despite not getting qualified for the playoffs, SRH absolutely decimated the KKR bowling lineup, posting a mammoth 278/3, their third-highest total in IPL history, thanks to a brutal century by Heinrich Klaasen.
The South African batter hit a ton in just 37 balls, the fastest in Hyderabad’s history and the third fastest in IPL history.
KKR Kneel Down Vs SRH To Script Shambolic Record
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, in reply, were never in the chase. They collapsed under pressure, losing 6 wickets for 95 runs.
With just 168 runs on the board, the Knight Riders got bowled out, handing SRH a massive 110-run victory, the biggest margin of defeat for KKR in IPL history, both in terms of runs and impact.
Until now, KKR’s biggest loss was in 2018 when they lost to the Mumbai Indians by 102 runs, but this defeat sets a new unwanted record for the three-time IPL champions.
Biggest margin defeats for KKR in IPL history:
- 110 runs vs SRH at Delhi in IPL 2025
- 102 runs vs MI at Kolkata in IPL 2018
- 92 runs vs MI at Gqeberha in IPL 2009
- 82 runs vs RCB at Sharjah in IPL 2020
This crushing defeat not only dents KKR's confidence but also raises serious concerns about their future in the IPL. The reigning champions are out of the playoff race with just 5 wins this year and have a lot to contemplate as the new era under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership hasn’t worked for them.
