The IPL 2025 is all set to resume on May 17 with the game between RCB and KKR and the final will be played on June 3. Thus, it has raised concerns over the availability of the foreign players for the full duration, and BCCI has decided to tackle the situation by bringing in a temporary replacement player option.

According to the new rule, a franchise can bring in an official replacement for a player who will not be available after the resumption of the IPL. Those players cannot be retained for the next edition though, but it has opened up an opportunity to fill the gaps that would arrive in different teams due to the reschedule of IPL.

In this article, we will see three replacements of high-profile players who will not be available till the final of IPL 2025.

1. Naveen-ul-Haq In Place Of Josh Hazlewood (RCB)

Josh Hazlewood has been RCB's best bowler in IPL 2025 with 18 wickets in 10 matches. However, he has battled quite a few injuries in the recent past and with WTC final approaching, there is high probability that he would not come back for the remainder of IPL 2025. Thus, RCB would need an experienced international bowler in his place, and Naveen-ul-Haq fits perfectly into that role.

The Afghan pacer has done well in IPL in past and is known for his death-bowling skills which RCB would need in absence of Josh Hazlewood. Naveen also has the experience of playing under pressure and with 259 wickets in the shortest format, he could be a great choice for RCB as a temporary replacement.

2. Prithvi Shaw In Place Of Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians will miss the services of Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton after the league stage of IPL 2025. Will Jacks will play for England in the ODI series that will start on May 29, while Rickelton will leave after May 26 for the preparation of WTC final against Australia. Thus, Mumbai Indians would need a top-order batter and it opens up an opportunity for Prithvi Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw has been out of favour in recent times, but he remains a quality batter and has done quite well in IPL. He is also a local boy and would add that firepower and experience at the top that MI would miss after Rickelton and Will Jacks. Shaw would also be eager to prove a point after being ignored in the auction and thus can form a lethal opening pair with Rohit Sharma.

3. Jonny Bairstow In Place Of Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler is one of the finest white-ball batters in the world, and has shown that once again in IPL 2025 with consistent runs at number 3 for Gujarat Titans. His experience has been key in GT's success this season, but he will leave IPL for the ODI series against West Indies after the league stage.

Thus, GT would be looking for a similar kind of a player and Jonny Bairstow can be their best possible option. He is an experienced cricketer who has scored lot of runs both at the international level and in IPL. Bairstow is a wicketkeeper batter as well and has experience of batting at 3. Thus, he can be a valuable addition and would also provide the stability that GT need in absence of Jos Buttler.
