After lifting the T20 World Cup last year, the Hitman bid adieu to the shortest format and announced his retirement from Tests just a few days ago. Being a beast of the white ball format, fans have missed Rohit Sharma’s brilliance in the T20I format.

Apart from thrilling big-hitting skills, fielder Rohit Sharma is a bit underrated. Before COVID struck the world in 2020, Rohit Sharma’s outstanding catch of Martin Guptill at the boundary line is still fresh in fans’ hearts.

Rohit’s Well-Balanced Catch In Boundary Line

Rohit Sharma has ruled the 22 yards with his bat, but his sharp fielding often slips under the radar. Being one of the greatest in the limited over format, Rohit Sharma hung up his boots from the T20Is last year. Even though Rohit is no longer seen in international T20s, his legacy is firmly etched in the hearts of fans forever.

In 2020, when Team India travelled to New Zealand for a long tour, the Hitman brought out his beast mode. In the first T20I match, his breathtaking catch grabbed the attention. While batting first, the Kiwis had a great start as Martin Guptill and Colin Munro were hitting all over the ground. But the tide turned when Shivam Dube came to bowl the 8th over.

In the fifth ball, Dube bowled a back-of-the-length delivery with extra bounce, as Martin Guptill opted to pull it towards the deep square leg. Positioned perfectly near the boundary, Rohit Sharma made no mistake, snatching an outstanding catch just inches from the rope to hand India their first breakthrough.

India’s Dominating Win And Positive Start

After the Kiwis put on a total of 203 runs on the board, Team India suffered a blow as Rohit Sharma walked out, scoring only 7 runs. After that early setback, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli’s outstanding partnership turned the tide. After scoring a thrilling half-century, Rahul played a crucial innings of 56 runs in 27 balls.

Following Rahul’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer joined Kohli on the field and unleashed his heroics. After Kohli’s dismissal in 45 runs, Iyer stood tall and secured the victory, being unbeaten on 58 runs in just 29 balls. Those explosive displays handed over a 6-wicket defeat to the Kiwis on their home soil. Along with that, Team India took the lead in the series by 1-0.
