The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is reportedly waiting for an official confirmation from New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra over his possible return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Earlier, several of CSK’s overseas stars left India as IPL 2025 was put to a temporary halt by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) citing security concerns.

While the likes of Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis and Devon Conway among others are expected to return to India, the CSK team management is still waiting for a clarity from Ravindra by Thursday, May 15.

Rachin Ravindra’s availability still in doubt

Rachin Ravindra has played eight out of the 12 CSK games this IPL 2025 season before BCCI suspended the tournament by a week citing India’s border tensions with Pakistan. The gap prompted several overseas CSK stars to fly out of India, with nearly all of them, barring England’s paceman Jamie Overton, currently poised to make their respective returns ahead of IPL 2025 resumption later this week.

The availability of Rachin Ravindra, however, still remains an area of uncertainty for the CSK management. According to reports, the franchise is expecting a formal response from the New Zealand batting all-rounder by May 15, i.e., a couple of days prior to the resumption of IPL 2025.

Nonetheless, both Rachin as well as the CSK team overall are enduring a stretch marked by inconsistency and miss opportunities this season. In eight matches this year, Ravindra has scored just 191 runs at an average of 27.28, despite starting out the season with a match-winning 65* against Mumbai Indians a couple of months ago.

The CSK franchise, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, is also ranked at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with just three wins from 12 matches. They will now face Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, May 20 in Delhi.
