Not long before, Ashwani Kumar, Mumbai Indians latest talent with the ball mortified KKR with his bowling. The debutant scalped 4 wickets to dismantle the batting lineup of the Knights giving away only 24 runs. It is to be noted that the young gun is under the guidance of none other than, yorker king, Lasith Malinga.

In a recent video circulating online via Mumbai Indians' official social media channel, the master of yorkers, Lasith Malinga was seen mentoring the young Ashwani.

Malinga's "Perfect!" Moment With Ashwani

The small clip released by Mumbai Indians on their X handle saw the Sri Lankan legend and former MI star Lasith Malinga give a masterclass to Ashwani. The video saw Ashwani Kumar bowl a delivery first which slung past the wicket but didn't hit it.

Malinga then advised Ashwani on his bowling arm action and head tilt position. After that Ashwani attempted another delivery and the ball hit the sweet spot of the middle wicket to which Malinga exclaimed, 'Perfect!'

Lasith Malinga's Journey With MI

Lasith Malingaโ€™s journey with Mumbai Indians (MI) is one of the most iconic in IPL history. Joining MI in the inaugural 2008 season, Malinga quickly became the franchiseโ€™s leading bowler with his unorthodox sling-arm action and deadly yorkers.

Over 127 matches for MI in IPL and Champions League T20, he took 179 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.88, playing a pivotal role in multiple title wins, including the memorable 2019 final where his last-ball wicket sealed victory.

Malinga As Mentor

After his playing days, Malinga transitioned seamlessly into coaching, becoming MIโ€™s bowling mentor in 2018. His mentorship has been invaluable in nurturing young pacers and refining the skills of established bowlers.

In 2023 and continuing into IPL 2025, Malinga serves as Mumbai Indiansโ€™ bowling coach, working alongside Paras Mhambrey and head coach Mahela Jayawardene.
