With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to resume on Saturday after a brief suspension, players have been urged to join their respective franchises. However, the Delhi Capitals, despite having almost all the players available have suffered a massive jolt with Mitch Starc unlikely to come back.

As per reports, Starc is unwilling to come, keeping in mind the WTC final on June 11. Hence, if their ace pacer isn't returning, DC are in trouble and here are 3 reasons why the franchise will miss his services.

1) Genuine wicket-taker

Throughout the IPL 2025, DC have struggled to take wickets in the power-play, with Mitch Starc the only one offering some resistance. He has taken wickets up front and in the death as well, as he stands with 14 wickets in 11 matches, miles clear of his other teammates who have gone for plenty of runs.

If Starc is not there, DC will miss his wicket-taking services and there is no one in the team who can replicate what the Aussie seamer does for the team. Hence, it could be a huge blow for the Capitals.

 2) The King of knockouts

Mitch Starc is the King of knockout matches and if DC reach the playoffs, his wicket-taking abilities and the ability to deliver the goods under pressure will be dearly missed.

In the IPL 2024 playoffs, Starc represented KKR and was their best player as the team clinched the trophy. In the Qualifier 1 against SRH, he broke their batting backbone and scalped 3 wickets as KKR reached the finale.

In the finals against the same opposition, he struck twice as KKR won their third IPL title. A total of 5 wickets in 2 knockout games shows his ability to absorb pressure and perform.

3) No proper replacement announced

With just two days left for the IPL to resume, no Starc replacement is announced and the one player they have signed - Mustafizur Rahman, is unlikely to play as he is yet to get the NOC. If Starc is unavailable, then DC will only have Dushmantha Chameera as their foreign pacer, and with Mukesh Kumar, T Natarajan and Mohit Sharma under the weather, things look bleak for the side.
