On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals made a significant change in their IPL 2025 squad, roping in Mustafizur Rahman as a temporary replacement. The experienced Bangladesh pacer replaced Jake Fraser-McGurk, who withdrew from the competition for personal reasons.
Mustafizur Jets Off To UAE After IPL 2025 Selection
However, Mustafizur Rahman travelled to the United Arab Emirates to represent Bangladesh in a two-match T20I series against the host nation only hours after securing an IPL contract worth INR 6 Crores. With the T20I series comprising two matches scheduled on May 17 and 19, Mustafizur's availability for DC's twelfth group-stage game on the 18th is in serious doubt.
As reported by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to issue a No Objection Certificate, which Mustafizur desperately needs to skip the UAE tour and join DC for the IPL 2025.
As the report states, the BCB fears that if it allows Mustafizur to play in the IPL, its PSL-bound players, Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain, could also demand the same.
In such a scenario, the cricketing body aims to maintain neutrality in issuing NOCs to its IPL and PSL-bound players, so that its relations with the BCCI and the PCB don't get affected.
"We are not saying that we won't let Mustafizur play in the IPL for the Delhi Capitals but at the same time, there is a thing called national commitment and he needs to fulfil that," a BCB director said on request of anonymity," a BCB director was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"Along with that, if we had released him in that case, what would we have done with the two cricketers who took part in PSL, as they could have asked why we were not releasing them? We don't want to be in a position that allows any Board to point a finger at us," he added.
Bangladesh's Pakistan Tour Could Jeopardise Mustafizur's IPL Campaign
After facing UAE in two matches, Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Pakistan for a five-match T20I series starting on May 25. Interestingly, Mustafizur has been included in the Bangladesh squad and could eventually miss the playoffs if the Capitals enter the next round.
So, it will be interesting to see if the BCB allows him to skip both the tours and prioritise the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
