The Indian Test captaincy saga has taken a drastic turn with doubts hovering over appointing Shubman Gill as the new Test captain. Post Rohit Sharma's retirement, the general assumption was that the youngster will succeed the veteran Rohit as the new leader in whites, however, as per RevSportz, there could be a late twist.

Bumrah over Gill for Test captaincy?

Reports circulated that the Punjab batter was set to be unveiled as the new Test skipper ahead of the England tour, however, RevSportz report that Bumrah is still in the scheme of things.

At the BCCI review meeting after the shambolic loss Vs Australia in January, it was decided that Bumrah will be the next Test captain of India. However, doubts creeped in when the pacer suffered a back injury and was ruled out of the Champions Trophy.

But Gill's Test statistics go against him as the BCCI is unsure about his ability to deliver the goods under captaincy pressure.

Gill's Test statistics worrying BCCI?

Despite being a prolific batter in the ODIs, where he is the vice-captain of the team and has done tremendously well, Gill's output in the Tests have been underwhelming.

In 32 matches, he has accumulated 1893 runs, at an average of 35.05, including 5 centuries. However, what's worrying is his stats in SENA nations, where he averages a mere 25 and is yet to play a significant knock apart from his Gabba heroics.

Meanwhile on the other hand, Bumrah has flourished, both as a player and as a captain in Tests and was always the preferred candidate for Test leadership.
