The 61st edition of the Duleep Trophy concluded on September 22. Mayank Agarwal-led India B won the title by beating India C in the final-round match. India A put on an all-round show as their star players like Riyan Parag, Tilak Varma, and Prasidh Krishna shone in the finals. The recently concluded edition acted as a trial ground for several budding stars and, in fact, star Indian cricketers who are eyeing a place in the Indian team.

While a few shone, there were some unexpected underwhelming performances as well. Thus, this article will shed light on three star India players who flopped in Duleep Trophy 2024.

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer, who was looking to shine in the Duleep Trophy and get back into the scheme of things in red-ball cricket for India, had a miserable domestic tournament. Iyer, who captained India D, has had a miserable season with the bat. He amassed just 154 runs in six matches at an average of 25. 67.

In his six innings, Iyer scored two fifty-plus scores, but he also registered three single-digit scores, including two ducks.

Mayank Agarwal

Agarwal led India A to victory by winning two games in a row. In the first round, Shubman Gill captained India A but suffered a defeat in the opening match. However, Agarwal's captaincy turned things around, and with two big wins in the second and third rounds, India A lifted the title.

However, Agarwal's individual performance was a disaster. The right-hand batter, who has not featured for India since 2022, amassed just 142 runs in six matches and averaged 23. 67. His figures are worse than Iyer's, as Mayank registered a solitary fifty-plus score.

Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan is another big name that has flopped in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy. Khan, who averages 66.39 in first-class cricket, could have shown his class and amassed just 71 runs in three innings at an average of 23.67.

Notably, Sarfaraz is one of the best cricketers in domestic cricket. He was even selected for the Indian team and is part of the squad for the ongoing Bangladesh series, but he is on the bench and is behind in the pecking order.
