Indian captain Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the first Test against Australia scheduled at Perth due to family commitments. During the Mumbai Test between India and New Zealand, Harsha Bhogle went on air to say that Rohit is expecting a new addition to his family as Ritika Sajdeh is pregnant with the couple’s second child.

India’s WTC 2025 finals qualification hopes hinge on the upcoming 5-game Test tour against Australia. Rohit Sharma has to lead his team to a minimum of 4 victories to ensure a safe passage to the third straight WTC finals.  However, the skipper himself is likely to be unavailable for the opening Test match of Border Gavaskar Series scheduled at Perth from November 22.

Rohit Sharma-Ritika Sajdeh to welcome second child

In the post-game press conference in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma confirmed that he is uncertain of his availability for the series opener.

According to a report from Mykhel, Rohit Sharma is expecting his second child with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, which is the primary reason behind his probable absence from the Perth Test. Commentator Harsha Bhogle also noted on air during the third Test between India and New Zealand that Rohit has asked for leave to welcome a 'new addition to his family.'

Notably, Ritika Sajdeh was spotted at Wankhede Stadium, cheering for India and flaunting her baby bump. The couple, who got married in 2015, was previously blessed with a daughter named Samaira.

Rohit Sharma drops to a career low in Test cricket

Rohit Sharma led India to its first home Test series sweep defeat as New Zealand dominated the Test tour fair and square. Besides failing as a captain, Rohit’s form as an opener was unacceptable. He scored 93 runs in 6 innings with an average of 15.27.

His overall Test average in 2024 has now dropped to 29.40, which is his lowest in a calendar year since taking up the opening role in 2019. At 37, the clock is ticking for Rohit Sharma, with the Border Gavaskar tour likely to be a make-or-break series.
