In a heartwarming take, Australian modern day great Steve Smith threw his support behind Indian superstar Virat Kohli amid the latter’s horrific form in Test cricket. With days left for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Smith praised Kohli’s ability to score runs in all conditions.

Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are part of ‘Fab 4’ which represents four greatest batters of this generation. Both have shared several moments of on-field rivalry, with some more intense than the others. The rivalry will once again be on display at the upcoming 5-game Test series between India and Australia, also known as the Border Gavaskar trophy.

Having said that, ahead of the highly anticipated tour, Steve Smith praised Virat Kohli and acknowledged his glorious career while speaking to FOX Cricket. Smith revealed that he considers Kohli the greatest all-format player of this generation. 

The Indian star’s ability to score runs at all venues and in all conditions is a remarkable trait. Notably, Smith has witnessed Kohli’s overseas dominance first hard during India’s previous Test tours in Australia. In his prime days, the batter scored tons of runs in Sena countries, and his love affair for Australian pitches was something special to witness.

"Virat Kohli is probably the greatest all format player we've had in a long time. He's scored runs wherever he's played," Smith said.

However, all that glory is in the past as Virat Kohli is struggling to score runs in the Test format. In the recently concluded home series against New Zealand, Virat scored just a single fifty and happened to be a part of some bizarre dismissals. Things have gotten so bad that his place in the Test team is under danger which makes the impending Border-Gavaskar tour even more crucial.

Virat Kohli touches new low in Wankhede Test

Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli is losing his charm as his struggles stooped to a new low in the home Test series against New Zealand. In the third Test held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli scored a total of 5 runs, which is his lowest aggregate in a Test where he batted in both the innings. Notably, Kohli accumulated just 93 runs in 6 innings this series with an abysmal average of 15.50.
