Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali believes Rishabh Pant should be sold for Rs.50 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction later this year. Ali’s comments came on the heels of Pant’s sizzling twin half-centuries on a challenging Wankhede Stadium surface against New Zealand.
The dashing wicketkeeper-batter punched out scores of 60 and 64 at a breakneck pace at the venue, even though Team India crashed to a 25-run defeat against the visitors. Last week, the 27-year-old was released by the Delhi Capitals franchise on the day of IPL 2025 retention announcement.
Basit Ali hails Rishabh Pant for Wankhede heroics
Taking to his YouTube channel, outspoken Pakistan cricketing personality Basit Ali praised Rishabh Pant for his batting heroics on challenging surfaces against New Zealand. Ali even claimed that Pant’s batting made the Wankhede pitch seem like a ‘flat track’, and he predicted a Rs.50 crore windfall for the Indian wicketkeeper-batter at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He said:
“Rishabh Pant scored 60 in the first innings and 64 in the second. What can I say about this kid? People say he should go for ₹25 crore in the IPL auction. However, I think he should be sold for ₹50 crore. When he batted on this pitch, it seemed like a flat track. He hit wherever he wanted to but his shot selection was good.”
Rishabh Pant accumulated 261 runs across three Tests against New Zealand to top-score in the entire series. The left-handed batter listed three half-centuries in the process, and maintained a healthy batting average of 43.50. The 27-year-old also pounded a match-winning century against Bangladesh back in September at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
Despite Rishabh Pant’s patch of batting excellence, Team India coped a rare 0-3 series whitewash at home against the visiting New Zealanders.
Back on October 31, i.e., on the IPL 2025 retention announcement, Pant was confirmed to have been released from the Delhi Capitals franchise ahead of the mega auction.
As per reports, the IPL 2025 mega auction will be held on either November 24 or November 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The dates will also coincide with the first Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and hosts Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
