Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got knocked out of the IPL 2025 season playoffs race and have been at the bottom of the points table for the longest time. However, as the tournament winds down, Dhoni is keen to rebuild the future of the franchise.
Dhoni, 43, took over as CSK’s captain earlier this IPL 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. However, a leadership change had no impact on the team’s performance, as they suffered humiliating losses.
As the season nears its business end, Dhoni has suggested that he could be a part of the franchise’s future amid fuelling retirement buzz.
MS Dhoni’s Big Statement On CSK’s Future
For their penultimate league fixture of the IPL 2025 season, CSK faced RR at Delhi. At the toss, MS Dhoni dropped a big hint about his future in the IPL. He stated that CSK are in the rebuilding process to shape a strong foundation for the future.
"We are in the rebuilding process. One of the main things when we were out of the tournament was get answers. It's about getting that combination right and getting that one player in the XI who you can target in the auction," Dhoni said at toss.
With recent performances improving, especially in the batting, Dhoni feels that a clear vision is starting to emerge. Out of playoff contention, experimentation has now begun and getting the right combinations ready for next season is the thrust.
Will Dhoni Retire From IPL?
Despite speculation, MS Dhoni has not confirmed retirement after IPL 2025. As per the Times of India, Dhoni will gauge his fitness before making a call on IPL 2026, and CSK is hopeful he will come back.
