Chennai Super Kings (CSK), under the leadership of MS Dhoni, pipped defending champions KKR at the Eden Gardens in match 57 of the IPL 2025 season. The captain himself launched the match-defining six in the final over of the match off Andre Russell, before tailender Anshul Kamboj notched up the winning runs.

Playing IPL 2025 at an age of 43, Dhoni dropped a huge update regarding his future while speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony.

MS Dhoni gives hint of his IPL future

MS Dhoni entered the IPL 2025 season as an “uncapped” cricketer for the CSK franchise, considering the former Indian captain confirmed his international retirement more than five years ago. With many fans and cricket experts speculating IPL 2025 to be Dhoni’s final season, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter himself gave a huge update regarding his future.

While speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, MS Dhoni said that he trains for “six to eight months in a year just to play two months of IPL cricket”. The 43-year-old added that he is yet to decide if he would be participating in the IPL 2026 season next year.

MS Dhoni relinquished his captaincy duties for the CSK franchise prior to the IPL 2024 season last year in favour of rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, the veteran stumper was re-appointed as CSK skipper midway into IPL 2025 after Gaikwad was ruled out owing to an injury.

The CSK team is currently placed at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, securing just three wins and sustaining nine defeats from 12 matches. They will now face Rajasthan Royals in match 63 of the season on Monday, May 12.
