Former India opener Kris Srikkanth has strongly criticized Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, suggesting he should retire from T20 cricket. Srikkanth's comments came after Pakistan's early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Pakistan's performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 led to heavy criticism of Babar's captaincy and batting approach.

Despite surpassing Virat Kohli as the leading run-scorer in T20Is during the tournament, his captaincy and strike rate have been questioned. Babar scored 122 runs in four games, averaging 40.66.

His final unbeaten 32 against Ireland helped Pakistan avoid further embarrassment, but the overall campaign was disappointing.

Watch: Srikkanth Questions Babar Azam's T20 Credentials

Speaking on Star Sports, Kris Srikkanth pointed out that despite Babar being the leading run-scorer in T20Is, his strike rate is insufficient for the format.

"Captain Babar Azam. I don't think he should play T20 cricket. Maybe a good Test cricketer. This is my opinion. Frankly speaking. You can't do all these tuk-tuking all the time.”

Babar Azam has impressive statistics, with 4145 runs in 123 T20Is at a strike rate of 129.08, including three centuries and 26 fifties.

However, his strike rate remains a point of discussion among fans and experts. Srikkanth reflects the broader sentiment that Babar's style may not be suited to T20 cricket.

"You talk about stats - 4000 runs Babar Azam, 4000 runs Virat Kohli, 4000 runs Rohit Sharma. His strike rate is 112-115. What are you talking about?"

Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 Performance

Babar Azam's Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 after losses to the United States and India in the group stage.

They lost to the USA in a Super Over and to India by six runs in a low-scoring match. Despite leading Pakistan to final wins over Canada and Ireland, their journey ended in the group stages.
