Shubman Gill's departure from Team India's squad raised eyebrows, especially after rumours swirled regarding his social media activity and alleged friction with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Speculations further intensified when Gill, along with Avesh Khan, was released from the squad after the group stage matches. Questions arose about possible disciplinary issues prompting their exit, particularly since other reserve players remained with the team.

However, Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour shed light on the matter, dispelling rumors of any untoward incidents. Rathour clarified that Gill and Khan's departure was pre-planned, part of a strategic decision made prior to the team's journey to the US.

He emphasised that the duo's return to India was scheduled from the outset, with the intention for only two reserves to accompany the India squad to the West Indies.

Here's what Vikram Rathour said:

“This was a plan from the beginning. When we come to the US, four players will come together. After that two will be released and two will travel with us to West Indies. So, this plan was made from the beginning since the team was selected. This was planned so we are just following that,” Rathour said in the press conference.

Gill's subsequent social media post featuring Sharma further dismissed any rift rumors. With clarity provided by Rathour, it becomes evident that Gill’s departure was part of a strategic team plan rather than a consequence of any disciplinary action.

With clarity on the matter, attention now shifts to Team India's upcoming challenge against Afghanistan in the Super 8 stage, slated for June 20.
