India had a brilliant outing in the Asia Cup 2025 tournament with an unbeaten streak. What was even more impressive was India beating Pakistan in the final and celebrating with the invisible trophy.
While almost the whole of India is aware of the famous invisible trophy celebration, a tribute to Rohit Sharma by Suryakumar Yadav and company, India's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who was part of the squad, revealed who actually came up with the idea for the celebration.
Invisible trophy celebration was Arshdeep Singh's idea!
At the CEAT Awards on Tuesday, October 7, Varun Chakravarthy spoke about the impromptu celebration that took place because India refused to receive the trophy from ACC Chief and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Chakravarthy revealed that the idea for the celebration came from India's ace pacer Arshdeep Singh.
“It was actually Arshdeep's idea. We were waiting for the trophy, but we all know how that turned out,” Varun said.
Varun then elaborated on how the team felt while celebrating at that moment.
“I was standing there, hoping the cup would show up — we were all waiting. But the only cup next to me was a coffee cup,” Varun added with a laugh.
Sanju Samson, who was also present during the celebration, shared his feelings about lifting the invisible Asia Cup.
“It was a bit strange, celebrating without the trophy. But we have a very positive environment in our dressing room. Even if we don’t have anything, we celebrate like we have everything. That’s exactly what we did,” Samson said.
India moves on from Asia Cup
Nevertheless, India has added another silverware to their name, even though they don't actually have the trophy physically since Mohsin Naqvi has handed it over to the UAE. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that India won the trophy.
Moving on from the Asia Cup, India's next assignment will be the second Test against the West Indies, where Shubman Gill is leading the team. After that, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return to ODIs after a long gap, with the series beginning on October 19.
