According to emerging reports, the pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the second Test between India and West Indies will be quite different from the kind of track we witnessed in the series opener in Ahmedabad. While the Narendra Modi Stadium's pitch contained live grass and assisted the fast bowlers initially, the track in Delhi is expected to be more batting-friendly.

Delhi pitch report for IND vs WI 2nd Test revealed: Batters and spinners to rule the roost

The red-soil pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad had live grass, which made things significantly difficult for the batters, especially on day 1. Roston Chase's decision to bat first backfired on the tourists, as Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah ran through their lineup in the first innings, sharing seven wickets between themselves.

However, this might not be the case with the pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium, which will host the second Test between the two sides from October 10 to 14. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, a traditional black-soil pitch with patches of grass will be dished out in Delhi.

This means the fast bowlers won't likely get significant seam movement and bounce that the Ahmedabad track provided to them. Instead, the surface in Delhi will have an even bounce, making it comparatively easier for the batters to play strokes.

However, as the game progresses, the track at Arun Jaitley Stadium will likely deteriorate and bring the spinners into play. We might also see an odd ball keeping low and surprising the batters, particularly on the last two days, something which was not the case with the surface in Ahmedabad. So, while the batters might enjoy their time in the middle initially, the pitch in Delhi will test their technique and temperament, especially against spin, as the game goes on.

India currently have an unassailable lead of 1-0 over the West Indies, and would like to secure a whitewash before departing to Australia for a riveting white-ball tour.
