Months of waiting are over as Rohit Sharma is set to be back in Team India's jersey. However, this time, the arrival is a bit different, as Hitman is returning as a player, with Shubman Gill being handed over Team India's ODI captaincy.

As the move sparked buzz, Rohit Sharma is all set to face the fierce Aussie challenges. At the recent CEAT event, Hitman opened up about the highly anticipated series against Australia.

Hitman sets sights on Australia tour

After the Champions Trophy 2025, fans waited for months to see Rohit Sharma on the field, and the time has finally arrived. As the white-ball series is starting on October 19, Hitman is set for a significant return. Earlier, the team management's bold decision to strip him of the ODI captaincy had stirred protests from fans and cricket stars alike, adding drama to his much-awaited comeback.

Coming back to the 50-over format, Hitman is ready to take the field under Shubman Gill's captaincy. But before facing Australia, he broke the silence about the series. At the 27th CEAT Cricket Rating Awards, Rohit Sharma admitted that Australia is always a tough challenge but emphasised that the team is determined to give their best.

“Australia is a different challenge every time they have played against us. Having been there now several times, I do understand what to expect. Hopefully, we can go there and do what the Indian team is supposed to do  and get the result in our favour,” Rohit Sharma said.

Is this Rohit’s final act?

Stepping away from the Test and T20I format, the ODI format remained Rohit Sharma's sole focus in international cricket. As the next ODI World Cup is scheduled for 2027, Team India moved on from Hitman's captaincy, as Gill has taken charge of the 50-over format. It wasn't merely a call by the selectors; it was the first step in a new chapter for Team India.

After a heartbreaking exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup, the upcoming edition was on Hitman's vision, but his place in the forthcoming mega event has become uncertain. The ODI series against Australia is going to be extremely crucial, as poor performance can cost him big. With his future in his favorite format still uncertain, fans are eagerly hoping for some more signature Hitman moments on the field.
