Afghanistan and Bangladesh are gearing up for the first ODI of the three-match series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The match will be live from 5:30 PM IST, with Afghanistan licking its lips to take revenge on Bangladesh.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan is making a long-awaited comeback to the 50-over format and will try to find their form again. With little match practice, the team's biggest problem may be rustiness. They haven't played an ODI in eight months, during the Champions Trophy.

With captain Hashmatullah Shahidi depending on the seasoned batting core of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rashid Khan, and Sediqullah Atal, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Gulbadin Naib, and Noor Ahmad have been left out. Afghanistan's ODI star all-rounder, Azmatullah Omarzai, will be the center of attention as he plays a vital role with the bat and the ball.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh will try to maintain their momentum in ODIs after defeating Afghanistan in their T20I series. Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan are expected to open the innings, while Najmul Hossain Shanto's inclusion fortifies the top order.

Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, and Nurul Hasan will compete for a few spots in the middle order. In terms of bowling, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman will lead the pace attack, while spinners Tanvir Islam and Rishad Hossain may be crucial depending on the situation.

AFG vs BAN head-to-head overview

Bangladesh edges Afghanistan in the head-to-head comparison as the Mehidy Miraz-led side has won 11 times out of the 19 times they have met. Afghanistan, meanwhile, managed to win only 8 times.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi pitch report

The Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi has a pretty decent pitch that works well for both batters and bowlers. Lately, we’ve seen some teams smashing big scores, but on the flip side, Ireland also pulled off a solid 69-run win, which proves that if you bowl well, you can definitely make a difference.

The pitch usually plays pretty true with nice bounce, and as the game goes on, spinners start to shine. Plus, if it’s an evening match, dew becomes a factor that can really help teams chasing the total, making the toss super important.
