The Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy has taken another turn a week after the tournament concluded. Despite winning the tournament, the Indian team denied taking the trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, sparking a huge controversy.
A week later, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yusuf took a stand in support of the Chairman and backed his decision not to hand over the trophy to the Indian team due to their actions. Moreover, Naqvi's actions didn't affect the Indian team as they continued to celebrate even after he left the stage with the trophy.
Mohammad Yousuf backs Mohsin Naqvi
India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final and were expected to receive the trophy at the post-match presentation. However, they opposed receiving it from Mohsin Naqvi, who is the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Instead of handing over the trophy to the winning team, the Chairman left the stage. However, Mohammad Yousuf has backed Naqvi and bashed the Indian team's decision not to receive the trophy from the Chairman.
"What Chairman Sir (Mohsin Naqvi) is doing is absolutely right. He has taken the correct stand. India should have taken the trophy at that moment. According to ACC and ICC rules, he was standing there as ACC chief and the trophy should have been handed through his hands only," said Mohammad Yousuf on Samaa TV.
"You didn't take it at that moment, so what's the hurry now? You should have gone and collected it from his office if you remembered that you had to take the trophy. At the ground, you were busy making your films," he added.
I have done nothing wrong: Mohsin Naqvi
The ACC President, Mohsin Naqvi, denied the claims of apologizing to the Indian team at the ACC AGM on Tuesday, September 30. He clearly stated that he had not done anything wrong and also specified that the Indian team could collect their trophies from the ACC office.
"As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me," Mohsin Naqvi wrote on X.
"Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologised to the BCCI nor will I ever do so," he added.
