The Asia Cup 2025 trophy drama is far from over, as India remains without its hard-earned silverware three days after the final. The controversy began when Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interim Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, took the trophy with him after India refused to accept it from him.

According to ZEE News report, Naqvi has now handed over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the UAE Cricket Board. This decision came after tensions between India’s cricket board, the BCCI, and Naqvi escalated. During a virtual ACC meeting on September 30, India raised three main concerns about Naqvi, including his behavior during the trophy ceremony.

The trouble started at the Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan, where India defeated Pakistan by five wickets. During the trophy presentation, Naqvi’s insistence on presenting the trophy led to a delay of over an hour, as the Indian team refused to go on stage.

Only the individual award winners stepped forward, while the team ignored the trophy presentation. Frustrated, Naqvi eventually walked away with the trophy and the winners’ medals, sparking outrage in India.

BCCI accuses Mohsin Naqvi of mismanagement

In the ACC virtual meeting, Indian representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar voiced their displeasure. They criticised Naqvi for not congratulating India and for taking the trophy away, calling his actions inappropriate.

Reports suggest the BCCI is now planning to file a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC), since the Asia Cup is an ICC-approved tournament.

Following the meeting, the ACC reportedly left the decision over the trophy’s custody to the five Test-playing nations: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. BCCI officials have asked for the trophy to be stored at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, from where the Indian team could collect it.

Naqvi, however, offered no solution during the meeting and only said that India’s captain could collect the trophy and medals from Dubai if they wanted them.
