Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam gave a strong reply to his critics by picking up a 5-wicket-haul on the first day of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Chattogram. He stated that people who judge a player by just one game have no understanding of the sport.
After a disappointing performance in the first Test in Sylhet, where Bangladesh lost by 3 wickets, Taijul faced a lot of criticism from fans, especially on social media.
In Sylhet, he managed to take only 2 wickets, which was his joint-worst performance in a home Test. However, the spinner redeemed himself in Chattogram.
Taijul Islam Silences Critics After Sensational Spell In Chattogram Test
Irrespective of the criticism, Taijul Islam showed his class and experience on day 1 of the second Test against Zimbabwe held at Chattogram.
Playing in his 53rd Test match, he picked up his 16th five-wicket haul and helped Bangladesh reduce Zimbabwe to 227 for 9 at the end of the first day.
When asked about the criticism, Taijul was clear in his response. He stated that people who judge too quickly are often the ones with zero knowledge about the game.
"I think those who criticise a player who has played so many matches after watching just one match don't understand the game," Taijul told media.
Even though he stood firm against the critics, Taijul admitted that he did not bowl well in the first Test.
"There is a matter of being satisfied. It's not a good thing, the way I bowled in Sylhet, considering that I'm a player who has played 50 Tests. It feels good to be able to bounce back after that," he added.
With Taijul leading the way, Bangladesh will be hoping to bowl Zimbabwe out quickly on Day 2 and build a strong lead.
Anamul Haque Returns In Bangladesh’s Test Side
Bangladesh’s 3-wicket loss to Zimbabwe in the first Test in Sylhet has led to some key changes in the playing XI of the second Test. Veteran batter Anamul Haque marked his return after nearly 3 years of absence. Anamul, 32, made his Test debut for Bangladesh in 2013 but has only played 5 Tests since then. He replaced Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the final XI of the second Test.
