Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat made his debut in IPL for Gujarat Titans during their recent clash against RR. Janat is, interestingly, one of the few players to represent his region in the IPL.

In the 47th fixture of the IPL 2025 season, GT took on RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Ahead of the toss, Titans’ star leg-spinner Rashid Khan handed over a debut cap to Karim Janat.

The all-rounder replaced Sherfane Rutherford in the playing XI and became one of the few Afghanistan nationals to feature in the IPL 2025 season.

In recent IPL history, Afghan cricketers have become largely popular amongst franchises. Rashid Khan was one of the first Afghan players to dazzle in the cash-rich league, which opened the doors for the rest of his peers.

During the eventful IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 7 Afghan players were picked by multiple franchises out of the 16 registered names, which marked a major achievement for Afghanistan cricket.

The star leg spinner Rashid Khan was retained by GT for a whopping price of INR 18 crore. Wicket-keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz also returned to KKR on an INR 2 crore contract.

Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, the 18-year-old promising talent, was sold to Mumbai Indians for INR 4.8 crore. However, an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Karim Janat was bought by the Gujarat Titans for a small price of INR 75 lakh in the mega auction. He has played 160 T20 matches so far, amassing 2,494 runs at an average of 22.67, including two centuries and nine fifties. With the ball, he has been equally effective, claiming 118 wickets at a tidy economy rate of 7.82.
